THE GREEN PARTY’S RECOGNITION OF GENOCIDE IN GAZA
The British Muslim Heritage Centre welcomes the Green Party of England and Wales historic decision to recognise Israel’s actions in Gaza as genocide. This bold stance reflects a deep commitment to human rights and justice and aligns with the widespread calls for accountability and an end to the violence faced by Palestinians.
Ellie Chowns, Green Party MP for North Herefordshire, said: “We don’t use terms like genocide or apartheid lightly, but they are a sad reflection of the atrocities being carried out by the Israeli State.”
The Centre applauds the Green Party for its leadership in addressing the grave humanitarian crisis in Gaza and for supporting the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement as a means of holding Israel accountable. Additionally, we support the party’s call for a suspension of arms sales to Israel, recognising the urgent need to end complicity in ongoing violence.
As the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“Whoever among you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; if he cannot, then with his tongue; and if he cannot, then with his heart – and that is the weakest of faith.”
This narration reminds us of our collective responsibility to stand against oppression and injustice in any form. By recognising the Palestinian plight and speaking out against it, the Green Party exemplifies this principle of moral responsibility and action.
We encourage all political parties and leaders to follow this example, prioritising human rights and justice in their policies and actions. The British Muslim Heritage Centre remains committed to advocating for peace, equality, and the protection of all innocent lives.
