The British Muslim Heritage Centre condemns any form of violence against women or girls. The horrific recent murders of Sarah Everard; the sisters Nicole Smallman and Bibaa Henry, as well as the murder of Sabina Nessa, highlight once again the profoundly disturbing dangers for women and girls in our society.

We stand in solidarity with the family of Sabina Nessa in pursuit of justice. We have campaigned in the past and will continue to campaign for the prevention of violence against women and girls.

Our thoughts and prayers go to Sabina  Nessa’s family and friends. May her soul rest in peace and may her family and friends have patience, strength and courage to bear the loss of their irreplaceable loved one.

The government released a strategy in July to help prevent violence against women and girls and promised better support services for minorities, as well as a public health campaign that would focus on perpetrator behaviour. We look forward to seeing this strategy implemented and backed by appropriate resources.

Campaign groups for women’s rights believe it is ironic that the burden of women’s safety rests on women, despite the fact that a woman die at the hands of men every three days in England. We extend our hand in support of all women so they feel safe and confident to walk the streets and go about everyday life without fear.

We will continue to work with our multi-faith and non-faith partners including our political leaders and the media to ensure that we are united in tackling all violence against women and girls.
