BMHC Statement on Gaza – Urgent Action Needed
BMHC Statement on Gaza – Urgent Action Needed
22 May 2025
The BMHC welcomes the Foreign Secretary’s condemnation of Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza as “unjustifiable and disproportionate” and the steps taken to sanction violent settlers.
However, with Gaza on the brink of famine and over 50,000 lives lost (according to multiple reports, including from Al Jazeera, Reuters, and the Gaza Health Ministry), the UK must do more—impose a full arms embargo, ban trade with illegal settlements, and enforce economic sanctions in line with international law.
We are also dismayed by the lack of compassion shown by some political leaders, who continue to ignore the suffering of Palestinian civilians. In times of immense human tragedy, all leaders must speak out clearly in defence of humanitarian principles and justice.
We ask the government to take bold action and not to ignore the continuing suffering of the innocent Palestinian people.
