PRESS RELEASE

From the British Muslim Heritage Centre for immediate release

30th July 2024

CONDEMNATION OF RECENT VIOLENCE AND MISINFORMATION IN SOUTHPORT

The British Muslim Heritage Centre is deeply saddened and shocked by the recent tragic incident in Southport involving the murder of young girls. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, and our heartfelt sympathies go out to their families at this incredibly difficult time.

We are also disturbed by the violent scenes of rioting and attacks outside a Mosque in Southport. It is particularly alarming to witness far-right thugs attacking police and targeting a place of worship. This behaviour is completely unacceptable and goes against the values of our society.

During a time of mourning, far-right extremists are using this tragic incident as an opportunity to divide communities. We condemn those who incite such violence and hatred, whether through social media or other means. Spreading misinformation and fueling animosity only serves to divide and perpetuate further violence.

We applaud the police for their bravery and efforts in controlling these criminal rioting gangs. Their dedication and swift action has helped to prevent further escalation and greater harm.

We call on the authorities to prosecute those responsible for these riots and the individuals inciting hate. It is crucial that justice is served to deter future acts of violence and ensure the safety and harmony of our communities.

We urge everyone to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that can incite violence. It is crucial that we stand united against hate and work together to promote peace and understanding.
