British Muslim Heritage Centre Congratulates Sir Mufti Hamid Patel on His
Appointment as Interim Chair of Ofsted

Manchester, 17th March 2025

For Immediate Release

The British Muslim Heritage Centre (BMHC) proudly congratulates Sir Mufti Hamid Patel CBE on his appointment as the Interim Chair of Ofsted. His appointment marks a significant moment, not only for the education sector but also for the wider recognition of the contributions of British Muslims to society.

Sir Mufti Hamid Patel is a distinguished education leader, renowned for his transformative impact on schools across the country. As the Chief Executive of Star Academies, he has overseen the development of one of the UKโ€™s most successful multi-academy trusts, achieving some of the best outcomes for students nationwide, with over eight of the Academies schools placed in the top 20 list of performing schools. His leadership has been instrumental in raising standards, particularly in communities that face socio-economic challenges.

In addition to his extensive experience in the education sector, Sir Mufti Hamid has served as an Ofsted board member since 2019, providing him with an in-depth understanding of the organisationโ€™s framework and priorities. His appointment comes at a crucial time, as Ofsted navigates key reforms to ensure that the education system remains effective, inclusive, and aspirational for all children in Britain.

Commenting on the appointment, BMHC Chair of Trustees, Nasar Mahmood, stated:

โ€œSir Mufti Hamid Patelโ€™s appointment highlights the recognition and contribution of Muslims in British society. Despite growing prejudices, the Muslim community continues to contribute positively to British society. His wealth of experience, makes him exceptionally well-qualified to guide the organisation through this important transition period.โ€

Sir Mufti Hamid Patel has also recently been appointed as a Patron of the BMHC, a reflection of his dedication to fostering educational and community development. The Centre looks forward to working closely with him in furthering shared values of excellence, service, and inclusivity.

The BMHC extends its best wishes to Sir Mufti Hamid Patel and hope that he can use his vast experience in improving schools to further strengthen the British education system for the benefit of all children.
